Greater Victoria – Saanich
The largest municipality in Greater Victoria, Saanich claims a population of approximately 110,000. Located just to northern Victoria, Saanich posesses a combination of suburban and rural neighborhoods.
When Europeans first located the area inside the mid 1800′s they began clearing forests and establishing farms to provide the growing population of Victoria. Many heritage structures; farmhouses, churches and other buildings are already preserved using this period. Today Saanich includes many neighborhoods along with a tremendous variety of housing styles ranging from apartments, condos, and multifamily housing to single family residences of most sizes, styles and values. You’ll find modest suburban family neighborhoods and upscale neighborhoods, also country residential and acreage properties. With 18 kms of oceanfront and many freshwater lakes there are several waterfront and waterview properties. Many of the older neighborhoods with small postwar housing have been in the process of being redeveloped and newer housing is replacing the little older homes.
Within its borders Saanich is split into 35 distinct neighborhoods, many of the largest include:
